2º CONCURSO INTERNACIONAL DE SAXOFONE "Vitor Santos"

 

REGULATION


Artº 1
The Competition is opened for musicians of all nationalities.

Artº 2
The competition will take place in Palmela in the installations of the Regional Conservatory of Palmela on July's 13th and 14th 2007.

Artº 3
The registration in the Competition implies the acceptance of its regulation and some further changes made by the organization in special circumstances.

Artº 4
The Competition is divided into four categories:

Infantile category: up to 10 years of age

Juvenile category: 11-14 years of age

Junior Category: 15-19 years of age

Senior Category: 20-26 years of age

Artº 5
Infantile and Juvenile category:

Will consist of an unique exam where the candidate will play a free piece

Junior and Senior category:

Contest will be divided in two parts:

- Eliminatory: Candidates will play a mandatory piece
- Final: Finalists will have to play a free piece

Artº 6
Contest repertoire:

Infantile and Juvenile category: Unique exam / Free piece

Junior category:
Preliminary: 2ª Suite for violoncelo solo, Prelude, Sarabande, Gigue, by J.S. Bach
Final: Free piece (maximum duration of 15 min)

Senior Category:
Preliminary: Divertimento, Roger Boutry
Final : Peça livre (maximum duration of 15 min)

Artº 7
The candidates who desire to be accompanied by a pianist of the competition will have to request it in the registration bulletin and send it until June's 15th.

Artº 8
The rehearsals with the accompanying pianist of the Competition will be carried out on July's 12th, from morning to afternoon.

Artº 9
The order of call for the tests will be done by drawing.

Artº 10
All the candidates will have to hand in a valid document of personal identification, or will not be able to participate in the Competition.

Artº 11
The jury will be composed of:

Vitor Santos - Former-Professor of the Music school of the National Conservatory, Lisbon.

Mario Marzi - Conservatory “Giuseppe Verdi”, Milan Jose Massarrão - Superior Music school of Lisbon and Universidade de Évora.

Fernando Ramos - Superior Music School, Artes and Espectáculo of Porto

Mário Marques - Superior Institute Piaget, Almada and Academy of Music of Alcobaça.

Francisco Ferreira - Conservatory of Porto, Professional Music school of Thorn and
Academy of Music Costa Cabral

João Figueiredo - Conservatory of Aveiro.

Carlos Canhoto - Conservatory of Viseu, Conservatory of Guarda and Music school of the CCPAC.

Paulo Almeida - Conservatory of Coimbra.

Rui Gabriel - Music school of the National Conservatory, Lisbon.

Rita Nunes - Music school of the National Conservatory, Lisboa. Music school “Nossa senhora do Cabo” - Linda-a-velha.

Hugo Gaito - Orphean of Leiria, Conservatory of Torres Vedras.

Pedro Rego - Regional Conservatory of Setúbal, OUREARTE - Music and Arts School of Ourém

João Pedro Silva - Regional Conservatory of Palmela, Amateur Academy of Music, Lisbon and Music school “Nossa Senhora do Cabo”, Linda-a-velha.

Artº 12
The Jury will be presided over by Prof. Vitor Santos

Artº 13
The president of the jury has the power to veto.

Artº 14
The evaluation of the candidates will be done in the following manner:

Preliminary:
- Each jury will give a voting of 1 to 20 values to each competitor. In the end of each test, all the votes will be collected and the counting made. The resulting average of all given classifications by the jury to each competitor will be the final classification.
- In case of a competitors professor being part of the jury, his classification will be removed and will be made the average of remaining classifications.
- In the end of all competitors tests, the classifications given by each jury and the final results found for the competitors will be divulged to the jury
-In the event of a tie it is up to the president of the juri having the power to veto.
Final:
- All the previous steps will be taken in consideration.
- The attribution of Honour Mentions will be contemplated exclusively in excepcional cases and under consensus of the majority of the Jury.

Artº 15
The Jury reserves the right to interrupt any given test at any time. The decisions of the Jury are unquestioned and definitive.

Artº 16
Six candidates will pass to the final.

Artº 17
The results will after be divulged in the end of the tests of each category.

Artº 18
The organization will not be held responsible for any material damages during the Competition.

Artº 19
Prizes:

• Infantile: - 1º prize: one Yamaha saxofone: Yamaha prize
- 2º prize: 100 EUR voucher "Domingos Caeiro" prize
- 3º prize: 75 EUR

• Juvenile: - 1º prize: one Yamaha saxophone: Yamaha prize
- 2º prize: 100 EUR

• Junior: - 1º prize: one Yamah saxophone – Yamaha prize
- 2º prize: € 250 + Vandoren prize
- 3º prize: € 150 + BG prize

• Senior: - 1º prize: one Selmer saxophone – Selmer prize
- 2º prize: 350 EUR + Vandoren prize
- 3º prize: 200 EUR + BG prize

Artº 20
The prizes will be delivered in the Concert of the Honored, July’s 14th at 21:30h. The first places of the three categories will have to present in concert.

Other candidates will be able to participate in the Concert of the Honored if invited by the jury.

Artº 21
The organization can nominate new members for the Jury if necessary.

Artº 22
The registration bulletins must be sent until July's 15th to the following address:

Artº 23
The calendar with the program of the competition, with the day and hour of the rehearsals and exams, will be communicated to all the candidates until July's 29th 2007.
